This was a nice read for a Sunday, not just because it's a feel-good kind of story but because it felt a little heavier in the God department than a lot of Hunter's other books (which are all strongly Christian; it just felt like it was more of a focus in this than a minor subplot). I liked Beckett as a character. He'd overcome a lot to get to where he was, and it showed in his actions, personality, and choices. I liked how kind and gentle he was with Madison, especially with his reputation for the opposite. I wish their conflict hadn't come from the I'm-sacrificing-you-for-your-good-because-I'm-not-good-enough-for-you trope but from something a little more meaningful to both characters and their personal story/relationship. Sometimes that trope works, but here it just felt tired and a little forced. Another thing I liked was the way Hunter made things really hard for Madison, how she showed the effects of her sleepless nights as more than just tiredness but something serious enough to impair her job performance; I wish she'd pushed it even a little bit further, too, since sleep deprivation can do really crazy things to a person's mind, and with how little Madison was sleeping, I feel like there would have been some other symptoms, too.

Denise Hunter has done it again. Great book. Great story. And the best part, with the large McKinley family there will (hopefully) be lots of books in the series.

Beckett O'Reilly is the son of the town drink. The former high school bad boy (who doesn't love a bad boy) who later turned to God. He has been in love with Madison McKinley since high school, but she was way out of his league.

Madison has been grieving her twin brother, Michael's, death for 10 years. She is so angry that God took Michael that she's closed her heart to him, and everyone else.

Madison's hopeful winning the sailing regatta, something Michael wanted to do, will put an end to the hurt and pain caused by his death. There's just one small problem, she doesn't know how to sail, and she's afraid of water. She turns to Beckett for help. And the sparks fly ... In more ways than one.

Adored Beckett. Madison, not as much. At least in the beginning. The ending was a sigh type of ending. I can't wait for the next book.
This is another good book by Denise Hunter. This was a little slow going at first but it was certainly worth hanging on until the end. Madison has never gotten over the death of her twin brother in a drowning after hitting his head. If she can just get his sailboat refurbished and learn to sail in the local Regatta, she thinks she will get over the grief and nightmares that plague her. But, and it's a big but, she has to get over her fear of the water. She wins an auction for sailing lessons with an sailing expert but he has work to come up that will take him out of town some weekends and she has to split the lessons between him and local bad boy, Beckett. Beckett won't teach her to sail until she gets over her fear of the water. Lots of barriers stand between the two of them...he is the son of a drunk and she is from what Beckett perceives as a normal, upstanding family. He has been in tons of trouble in the past and she is a high achiever and is now a veterinarian. One thing from their past is that he kissed her at a high school dance when she was a sophomore and he was a senior. They have each had a little bit of a crush on the other but nothing ever came of it. And there was a recent misunderstanding between the two concerning Madison's sister, who left town abruptly. Now they have to work together on getting Madison ready for the sailing regatta. Talk about awkward. But Beckett has changed his life around and is going to church and doing a Bible study. Madison has always gone to church but can't understand why God would allow her twin, a Christian, to die at seventeen years old. Both have to face their pasts so that they can see the future and what is in store for them. This is a sweet story that will touch all of the emotions and has believably realistic characters.
I have waited way too long to enjoy a Denise Hunter book. Man I forgot how wonderful they are and what an awesome author she is! This story was easy to get into, the characters were very lovable and I enjoyed it very much. Madison McKinley is a vet in the small town of Chapel Springs, Indiana. She suffered a devastating loss nearly 10 years ago and is still trying to recover. She wants to enter the regatta, a sailing race, but needs help overcoming her fears in order to do so. And in enters Beckett O'Reilly....a man from Madison's past she would like to keep in the past. I LOVED this book. Give it a try, it's a keeper! Can't wait to read the next one.
